Books Read During 2011

source: lili.or
Every year I used to promise myself I would keep a log of the books I read. And I would immediately forget. Then I'd remember again, but only after I'd already read a few books, but couldn't be sure I'd remember them all to include on the list, and so - - I couldn't bring myself to start the list. It's sort of like missing the first 30 minutes of a movie. I just can't watch it if I've missed the beginning. And being the anal ol' soul I am, I can't bring myself to start a list if I can't be sure it's going to be a complete one.

So.

I finally remembered to start a list during 2010 and found it to be a fun thing. Great fun for a compulsive list-maker like myself!

If you're interested, you can see my 2010 list here -

And because I had so much fun with it, I did it again in 2011, and plan on continuing the tradition in 2012.

'Tis a fun thing.

It may seem a little early to post this list since it's only December 19th, but with the holidays I stay a little busy doing all the things we all seem to be doing this time of year, including baking.  I seem to do a good bit of baking, which I always enjoy anyway, any time of the year.  And making candy.  I don't usually do a lot of candy making, but this year is  "The Year of White Chocolate Bark" at our house.  White chocolate bark with lemon was such a hit that tomorrow we're going to try making some with crunched up root beer barrels.  I'll let you know how that goes.  Here's a picture of the Lemon Bark

In addition to all these holiday activities, the next book I'm going to read is a biggie.  In more ways than one.  I'm hearing pretty impressive things from people who have read it.  The word "amazing" keeps popping up.

Although, I'm not a huge fan of everything by Stephen King, the books I have liked, I've liked a lot.  And since I'm of an age that I remember exactly where I was when President Kennedy was shot and vividly recall being in front of the TV seeing Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald, this is a book I can't pass up.

Coming in at 849 pages, I may still be reading it come January 1.

This is also the time of year when many of us pick our favorite books of the year, which is an almost impossible task for me.   I'm going to ponder this for awhile and post that list separately at a later date.

But I can post my favorite cover!  Hands down - for me - Erin Morgenstern's THE NIGHT CIRCUS (which will definitely end up on my "Best Of" list.  I loved it!).

Here's my list of Books Read During 2011

Since writing this, I received two ARCs in the mail that I just couldn't resist, so I have two new books to add (both excellent!):

My darling Kaye,

We read a lot of the same books this year.

My coup is seeing Susan Hill and S.J. Rozan on your list. I love telling people about authors and having them agree with me.

My favorite this year just might be Susan Hill's HOWARDS END IS ON THE LANDING.

I read quite a few books from my house this year (the exception being new in series and a few new to me authors) This year I plan to contine.

Ah, Kaye,

Great minds think alike. I looked back my books yesterday to pick my favorites. Louise Penny's A Trick of the Light topped the list. I had a hard time sticking with ten, so I only picked nine, and left the tenth spot open!

Thanks for sharing your list. It's always fun to compare and see what I missed.

Kaye, thank you for your blog always, and for this list today, great stuff! You and I have a bit of the same reading DNA, so it's always fun seeing your reads. And your photos...ahhhhh...love that one with the book overhead! And Keith in his library. And of course, of course, you and Harley and Willie. Perfect!

I started keeping my own reading log (just a list on excel-author, book, 'grade', and a few thoughts) back in about '96 because was forgetting what I'd read and re-reading without intending to, ha. That list has been a huge helper for me, and fun to look back on. When my computer was nearly crashing, my scream was "My pictures! My Masterlist!" Thank goodness we saved it!

Thanks for sharing. Now off I go to look up some of your reads to see if they need to be on my TBR (to be read) stack.

Merry, Happy, Have some fun today!
Bobbie

Judy Honey - Hey there!!! Yep, the HOWARDS END SN ON THE LANDING is a little gem! And I would not have even known about it if it weren't for you. AND, of course, I thank you every single time I read anything by S.J. Rozan (and cringe with embarrassment about bursting into tears in front of her. jeeeez).

Keep passing along all the great suggestions, please!

Lesa, oh how fun! Apparently while you were here reading my list, I was over at your place reading your list. LOL!! And added three books to my list of things to read. The chihuahua books sound interesting and fun, but probably not something I would have picked up without your endorsement. The Keys to the Castle sounds a delight, and I can't wait to read the Todd Ritter book. And yes, we SO agree on Louise Penny. What a gift she's been in our lives, huh? I hope the Three Pines series lasts forever.

Bobbie - Mornin'!! We do seem to share a lot of the same faves, don't we?! And aren't lists just fun?? I don't even want to think about trying to go through life without my lists!

And I'm going to follow your suggestion about having some fun today, girl. I'm off to the gym and I'll be having Christmas dinner & gift exchange with my book group this evening. Life is good!

Such an impressive list, Kaye. We read a bunch of the same books in 2011, and I intend to print out this list so I have a bunch of good titles to add to the 2012 TBR pile. That's one of the great things about books - they never get stale.

I've asked Santa for 11/22/63 so we may be immersed in it simultaneously.

Happy holidays to you and thank you for your wonderful blog.

Best,

Brenda
