In Honor of National Poetry Month - Shel Silverstein

The Little Boy and the Old Man
by Shel Silverstein
Said the little boy, "Sometimes I drop my spoon."
Said the old man, "I do that too."
The little boy whispered, "I wet my pants."
"I do that too," laughed the little old man.
Said the little boy, "I often cry."
The old man nodded, "So do I."
"But worst of all," said the boy, "it seems
Grown-ups don't pay attention to me."
And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.
"I know what you mean," said the little old man.

This poem made me cry, reminding me of my father in his last months.
Thank you

My mother, and some of my older friends, agree that older people are ignored. I love this little poem. I also love "When I am an old woman, I will wear purple." I decided to begin wearing purple a long time ago and now that I am almost 65, I may add the red hat!!!

P.S. Proving I am not a robot is getting harder and harder. :)

I love this little poem too. And - I remember how powerful I thought it was the first time I read it. it has stayed with me a long, long time.

I'm glad it touched both of you, too.

Phyllis, I hate this robot control thing! I can hardly make out the dumb words and sometimes just give up. grrrrrr!
