What has happened to us?

I've been lax in writing and posting things here about my political views.

Shame on me.

We have to speak out.

We must resist.

We must.

Even if our voice shakes.

Even if we ramble.

The world ain't all about a cute puppy with eyes that melt my heart.  Oh, how I wish that were so.

Daily, we become less the country I love.

The country I grew up in would not be capable of some of the hateful, shameful, indefensible acts we've witnessed lately.

The White House banning major legitimate news outlets from a press conference.  You know, freedom of the press is covered by the first amendment of our constitution.

If the fact that this right is being blatantly ignored by the president of this country doesn't scare the hell out of you, I suggest you read some history.

For instance.

This article about how Hitler handled news he didn't like is an eye opener - https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007655 .

You think this can't happen here?

You're wrong.

Ever heard that saying about those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it?

New York is billing the U. S. Federal Government for reimbursement of Trump's security costs.  The first month's bill is $35 million.  The White House isn't good enough for the Trump family.

Citizens across the country are inviting their representatives to host Town Hall Meetings.  Very few are agreeing to do so.  Thom Tillis of North Carolina  refused by saying it was just an excuse for people to come yell at him.  Others who have agreed, have left when the questions got too tough.  Some have brought in police for their own personal protection.   Here's how I feel about all this.   Thom, dude.  You're an ELECTED official. You are paid to listen. If that includes getting yelled at, grow some and listen, maybe you'll actually learn something and start doing what's best for your constituents. I'd venture to say there are people getting yelled at by their bosses every day. They still have to show up. When representatives begin to be afraid of their own constituents is when it's time for them to realize that maybe, just MAYBE, they're not working for the people who elected them. Time to, perhaps, rethink why the choice was made to run for political office, which, by the way, did not use to be a way to line one's own pockets quite as well as it now does.

These are only some of the things that have angered and broken my heart this week.

I haven't even mentioned people being scooped up and deported - ruining lives and tearing families apart.

I haven't even mentioned this administration's careless treatment of our LGBT friends and family members.

You think this isn't a racist, bigoted, intolerant administration?  There are still people who support this new president.  People who believe they're the party to bring God back to our country (forget the fact of separation of church and state - another little thing this administration apparently doesn't believe in).

Let me ask you.

Is THIS Christianity as you've always thought it to be?

Not me, honey.  Not me.

This was the Christianity I was raised with -

But back to bigots.

This administration has more than its fair share, I think.

You don't agree?

Do your research.

Look into the backgrounds of some of the now key people chosen to run this country.

It's shameful.  And scary as all hell.

If you are anything other than plain vanilla white right now, I can't even begin to imagine how you're feeling.  How very afraid you must be for your children.

We, as a country, swore this would never happen again.

I believe that's a promise now being broken by this administration.

And it's only going to get worse.

When Bannon spoke at CPAC he said this administation's plan was "deconstruction of the administrative state," including rolling back Obama-era government regulations and trade agreements. He praised the president's Cabinet picks and said that "they were selected for a reason, and that is deconstruction."  http://www.npr.org/2017/02/23/516847668/top-trump-advisers-bannon-and-priebus-set-to-address-cpac

Think about that.

If you have thought to yourself, as I have, that his cabinet appointments have appeared to be people who are in direct conflict of what they'll be in charge of, you're exactly right.  They were chosen for the deconstruction of those departments they'll be heading.

And I haven't even mentioned Russia.

So much I haven't mentioned.

So much happening.

So many sad things.

So many wrong things.

Sweet Jesus.

What have we become and who is now really in charge?

Thank you for an excellent commentary, Kaye. I agree with every word you wrote. We must stand up, be counted against this evil regime...and resist resist resist. Until they no longer hold power.

I agree with you 100%! I never thought I would see the day that this would happen in our country. We have to fight back!

I agree with you as you know. It makes me angry, and I just fight more.
