TOO long since we have been to Topsail Island!
It was good to be back, and this is the little house we rented for our week in Surf City - Welcome to SunnyDayz.
Mostly, we sat on the deck and watched the waves, the birds, and the dolphins.
And a guy blowing some pretty amazing bubbles
Lookit the size of those bubbles! 😮
We did take a short ride to check on my tree.
I have loved this tree and the sweet quiet cove it lives in for a lot of years, but because developers have discovered this little outlet and are now building the hell out of it with ugly (but very expensive) cookie-cutter condos I'm always afraid my tree's going to be gone when we go to check on it.
And we stopped so I could peek at the clearance rack in front of my favorite Surf City boutique - Sandy Toes.
Didn't go in and didn't buy anything.
My mom would not have understood leaving there without a bag with a new dress.
We just did what we think you're supposed to do while at the beach.
Not much of nuthin'.
Sat on the deck and watched our very small little beach world go about its daily business.
Drank coffee (or an adult beverage of choice).
Read.
Napped.
Talked about what we wanted to eat and where we would go to get it.
We only did take-out 'cause we're still practicing COVID precautions, so we missed eating out at some of our favorite restaurants.
But JM's on the Water gets First Prize for the best steamed shrimp.
We spotted this pretty little flower in our yard, but the very next day the yard guy showed up and damned if he didn't just cut it down. 😕
Waking up
I don't know who this woman is, but I admired her from afar.
This is a woman after my own heart.
A woman who hears the call of the ocean.
And refuses to ignore it.
She came down to sit at the edge of the waves after making her way down with her walker.
Every day.
I hope I can follow in her example.
Bye, Topsail.
Hope we see you again soon.

There's Annabelle by an open gate! She must have grown up some, and didn't take off on the beach by herself.
I love the woman with the walker who heads to the beach. My Mom made a new friend recently who moved to Huron. She has a walker, and she goes to the lake every day to walk out on the pier and see the sun rise. Mom meets up with her. My mother said today it was cold this morning, and she didn't want to get out of bed, and she didn't want to go to the pier, but she knew Winnie would be there. And, if Winnie could do it, so could Mom. So, she headed to the pier to meet her friend.
Your vacation looked perfect for the two of you. Sending hugs, Kaye!
Oh, Lesa. I love this story.
Love Winnie, and love your Mom for being such a good friend.
(this made me tear up a little bit; happy tears).
It was a good week. Good to get away, good to put my toes in the sand and bounce about in the waves.
Annabelle would have shot down those steps except for the fact that she was still leashed so Don could wash the sand off her tummy before letting her go inside. LOL! Grown up? Pfftt.
Love you, Lesa!
xxoo
And, Annabelle made me laugh. I didn't see the leash in the photo. Oh, Annabelle!
She is a devil-ette! LOL!
Oh Kaye, there's so much to love in these pictures! It looks like such a wonderful place of renewal for the soul. I'm so happy that you and Don got to enjoy this.
Thank you, dear one. Never ever was a beach trip needed more!
Love You!

It really was, Vicki. And so overdue.
Debby Hill loves your pictures!! We were on water, but not the Ocean. Love the sunset picture and you in your white dress with Annabelle!!
Debby, we have been to Assateague, but never to Chincoteague. It sounds pretty wonderful!
Thanks for sharing your vacation and for all the photos. I enjoyed it.
Thanks, Eve!
